Gold carat's (purity)

The most frequently asked question about gold is the carat (gold content).  This is the measurement of the purity of gold, the number of gold parts per 24. One carat is 1/24th gold or 4.1667%.  The higher the carat the more gold metal present in the alloy however gold is a malleable (soft) metal and so alloyed with other stronger metals.  The two most available carats of gold are 9 and 18.  9 carat gold (stamped 375 ) although lower in cold content is often the strongest most durable and lower in price, suitable for every day wear.  18 carat is a higher purity (stamped 750) and higher price however can be less durable, if looked after higher carats of gold have a brighter shine and gold glow but being softer may scratch and ware with time.

The purity of a diamond refers to the number of inclusions that it possesses. A diamond is considered pure if, with the use of the magnifying glass ,it shows no crystallization defects.  Inclusions not visible to the naked eye doesn't alter the beauty of the diamond although it will affect the value. International norms classify the stones with different categories of purity. They are:

1- lF : (internal flawness) a diamond with no imperfection.

2.- WSI to 2 ( very ,very small inclusions ) : a lot of small inclusions.

3- VS 1 to 2 ( very small inclusions ) : a few small inclusions.

4- Si1 and Si 2 ( small inclusions ) : small inclusions.

The Cut

The stone cutting is an art that allows to reveal the shine and brightness of a diamond . The stone develops more beautiful woman like shine when it is cut and polished .For a perfect it takes hundreds of hours of practice. A professional stone cutter knows how to cut the diamonds into a particular shape to maximise it's beauty and shine. Before choosing the shape, he takes into consideration the location of the inclusions. He is trying to maximise the reflection of light rays that enter the diamond.

Diamond Carat's (purity)

The unit weight of a diamond is called a "Carat". l Carat corresponds to 0,20 grams. For the professionals the carat is also divided in to 100 units .The larger the diamond the larger the value.  It is understood that two diamonds of the same weight will have different values due to the inequality of the colour, purity and cut of the stone .
